May 24, 2012: FINALE - Swedes Abroad

For the last ABROADcast for what may be forever, we decided to turn our whole concept on its head. Instead of us foreigners talking about Swedes in their natural habitat, this final episode is about why Swedes go abroad and what they do while they are away from home. Whether they go abroad for love, for money, for education, or just to see the world, Swedes can be found everywhere doing all kinds of cool stuff. Listen and learn, one last time. 3 pm on Studentradion 98,9... It's been real!

May 17, 2012: Swedish Neighbors

We're not talking about those Swedes who you have lived with for several months and never once spoken with. We're talking Sweden's neighbors - that is to say Norway, Denmark, and even Finland. We attempt to define the concept of Scandinavia, looking at the relationships  between these countries. We look at both the things they have in common and the things that set them apart. And of course we have a segment in honor of Norway's National Day (May 17!).

April 19, 2012: Citizen Swede

ABROADcasts dedicates a whole episode to the memory of Sven Svensson, the most average, most typical Swede to ever have been born. Sven lived a common place life, never exceeding anyones expectations, yet never failing them either. Average life span, most common cause of death, he worked a regular job, had the average amount of children... I think you get the picture. The life of Sven Svensson illustrates what life is like in Sweden as lived by the majority of Swedes.

February 9, 2012 : All hail the King (of Sweden)!
Yes, Sweden has a Royal Family. Where do they come from? What is it that they do exactly? How do commoner Swedes perceive them? And why does Carl XVI Gustav wear such silly hats? We’ll answer these questions (and more!) while sipping a cup of tea.

December 15, 2011: Music Brings Us Together
For the last episode of ABROADcast of 2011, we thought we would take all you listeners on a musical journey to our homecountries. Taking off from Sweden, we'll fly on the wings of rhythm and harmony over to the USA where we will look at both the world of hiphop and a few outstanding solo artists. From there we will follow the roots of jazz to an unexpected place, India, where Suhani will show us what Indian music is really about. You can't talk India without talking the Old Empire, so we'll have a listen to some tunes from a few British songstrisses. Then it's down to Espana where Cristina will guide us in the ways of Spanish music. Continuing south, we will have a guest interview with an expert in African music. Finally, with satisfied ears and happy hearts, we will return back to Sweden to the sounds from a very special Swedish musician. Music is the language of our souls, each of us the world over!

December 8, 2011: Holiday Spirit
Sweden during the holidays can be described with many words (dark, cold, awful, boring, just to name a few). That's why it's so important for Swedes to celebrate the winter holidays as best they can with Advent, Lucia, and jul (Chirstmas). Everything is about lighting up the darkness and trying to make the best out of the hardest part of the year. ABROADcast discusses the traditional roots of these holidays as well as their meaning today. What does a Swede give another Swede for Christmas? What do you do on a Swedish Christmas Eve? Who is this lady with candles in her hair??? Listen and learn!
